Prop65
California's Proposition 65, officially the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, requires businesses to provide warnings to Californians about significant exposures to chemicals that the State of California has identified as causing cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. The warnings below apply to products sold by SWAN Beauty and shipped to customers in California.

Frequently asked questions
What is Proposition 65?
Proposition 65 is a California "right to know" law. It requires businesses to notify consumers in California before potentially exposing them to any of the more than 900 chemicals that the State of California has listed as known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. The list is maintained by California's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) and includes many substances that are common in everyday products, such as metals used in electronics, plasticizers used in cables, and naturally occurring elements.
Why does the SWAN Mirror carry this warning?
The SWAN Mirror is a connected electronic device. Like virtually all consumer electronics, it contains components such as printed circuit boards, solder, cables and plastic housings. Materials commonly used in such components can contain small amounts of Proposition 65 listed chemicals, including lead, DEHP, bisphenol A and nickel. We provide the warning so that our customers in California receive the information the law entitles them to before purchase.
Does the warning mean the product is unsafe?
A Proposition 65 warning is a disclosure required under California law. It is not a statement by any regulatory agency about the safety of a specific product, and it does not mean that a product violates any product safety standard or requirement. California law requires the warning whenever a product can expose consumers to a listed chemical above levels set by the state, which are in many cases set well below the levels at which health effects have been observed. You will find the same warning on a wide range of everyday products sold in California, including electronics, appliances, furniture and cosmetics.
Why have I not seen this warning on similar products elsewhere?
The warning requirement applies to products sold into California. Businesses decide individually how to provide the warning, on the packaging, on the product page, or both. Because our products are sold throughout the United States from shared inventory, we apply the warning to all US units and product pages rather than only to shipments to California.
